چکیده
This paper simulates, analyzes, and compares, for two case studies (one synthetic freeway one real-life freeway), the behavior of Logic-Based Traffic Flow Control (LB-TFC), an integrated control strategy Ramp Metering (RM) installations Variable Speed Limits (VSLs) that was proposed derivated in first part work (‘Part 1: Controller’). For study, which presented work, performance LB-TFC is compared with ones obtained optimal solution Mainstream (MTFC) + PI-ALINEA algorithm. Moreover, robustness considered controllers analyzed this study concluding quite robust, specially when comparing MTFC PI-ALINEA. second (a stretch ring-road SE-30 Seville, Spain), data from 10 different days have been used order to simulate using real afternoon peak period. In properly deal a bottleneck dynamically changing number lanes, equations slightly modified study. both studies, provides robust that, most cases, close improves reduction Total Time Spent (TTS) tuning parameters advantages disadvantages LB-TFC.

Novel Freeway Traffic Control with Variable Speed Limit and Coordinated Ramp Metering
control freeway traffic in the United States, particularly in California. It is recognized that ramp metering can directly control the flow into the freeway (demand) and the average density immediately downstream, which indirectly affects the traffic upstream. After drivers enter the freeway, their collective behaviors are not controlled, which determines the traffic flow pattern. In addition, ...
متن کاملModel predictive control for optimal coordination of ramp metering and variable speed control
We apply model predictive control to optimally coordinate variable speed limits and ramp metering. The basic idea is that speed limits can increase the (density) range in which ramp metering is useful. For the prediction we use a slightly adapted version of the METANET traffic flow model that takes the variable speed limits into account. The optimal control signals aim at minimizing the total t...
متن کاملControl of traffic with anticipative ramp metering
When there are different routes from origin to destination in a network, the traffic divides itself over these routes. The resulting assignment is often determined by the travel times on the different routes. When control measures are implemented the travel times for some routes change, which can lead to a change in the assignment. This change in assignment can effect the performance of the who...
متن کاملModel predictive control for optimal coordination of ramp metering and variable speed limits
This paper discusses the optimal coordination of variable speed limits and ramp metering in a freeway traffic network, where the objective of the control is to minimize the total time that vehicles spend in the network. Coordinated freeway traffic control is a new development where the control problem is to find the combination of control measures that results in the best network performance. T...
متن کاملOptimal coordination of ramp metering and variable speed control – An MPC approach
We present a model predictive control (MPC) approach to optimally coordinate variable speed limits and ramp metering for highway traffic. The basic idea is that speed limits can increase the range in which ramp metering is useful. The control objective is to minimize the total time that vehicles spend in the network. For the prediction of the evolution of the traffic flows in the network we use...
